Holidays to the Polar region offer lots for the intrepid and inquisitive traveller. Discover a wide variety of flora and fauna amid some of the most breathtaking mountainous vistas in Svalbard. Take in the dramatic glacial wonders of the North Pole, spot polar bears, humpback whales, walruses, reindeer and sea eagles in Greenland, or visit some of the many historical and memorial sites on the Falkland Islands. You’ll also have opportunities to meet local remote settlements, kayak through icy waters, and follow in the steps of the Vikings. Whatever you’re looking for in a holiday, a trip to the Polar region is an experience filled with plentiful wildlife, fascinating history and dramatic scenery.
Summer time (between June and August) is the most popular time for cruising the Polar region, as the ice has melted and temperatures are extremely cold, but more comfortable with the mercury reaching around 5°C. Summer can be the most crowded time to visit the polar region, and some people opt for travel between February and March when there are fewer crowds and good light. The midnight sun season lasts from April to August. Travel is not advised during the polar night season (October to February), as temperatures can drop as low as -30°C.
