This 870 km2 wilderness area is located in the Eastern Province’s Meru District, northeast of Mount Kenya.
The majority of the terrain is made up of open grassland in some areas, wooded grasslands in others, and prickly bush land in the north.
There are also extensive Doum and Raffia palm riverine forests in the park. Grevy’s zebras, elephants, eland, bush pigs, waterbucks, cheetahs, leopards, reticulated giraffes, hippopotamus, bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adder, cobras, buffalo, and over 300 species of birds have all been documented in this area.
