Four unfenced private concessions that together encompass an area of unspoiled wilderness are situated to the west of Chobe, between the Okavango Delta and the Caprivi Strip. Only a few camps exist within these vast protected areas – the Kwando Reserve alone is larger than Greater London – but they provide guests with some of the most luxurious wilderness experiences in southern Africa.
Just two or three small, intimate tented bush camps reside in each concession, which is situated in a stunning location with an abundance of wildlife throughout the majority of the year. Numerous mammal species enjoy a diversity of habitats and, during the dry winter months, the Kwando River, Linyanti Marshes, Selinda Spillway, and Savuti Channel serve as lifelines, drawing herds of elephants in unprecedented numbers.
These wetlands are broken up by open plains with islands of palm forests, riverine woodlands, and mopane forests that extend to the Okavango and Moremi. In addition to being well-known for its abundance of lions, the region is also home to numerous packs of the elusive wild dog, as well as frequent sightings of cheetahs and leopards.
A trip to Botswana wouldn’t be complete without spending time in one of these incredible reserves, especially during the dry months.
