Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha

Nakuru

One of the most iconic pictures of Kenya can be seen in Nakuru, where thousands of flamingos form a magnificent flock that is truly breathtaking. But Nakuru offers more than just flamingos. Both black and white rhinos can be found in this significant national park, which also serves as a rhino sanctuary.

There is plenty of other game and, along with enormous herds of buffalo, zebra, and waterbuck, there are also endangered Rothschild giraffes.  Beautiful freshwater Lake Naivasha is surrounded by dense papyrus.

With an average depth of five meters, the lake’s waters are shallow despite its nearly 13 km width. The lake and its environs are abundant in natural resources and this area is one of Kenya’s most important for agriculture due to the rich soils and water supply.

The yellow-barked Acacia Xanthophlea, also referred to as the yellow fever tree, covers a large portion of the lake’s perimeter. There is an abundance of bird life in these forests, and Naivasha is renowned as a top birdwatching destination.
