The primary hub for travel to southern Africa is Johannesburg, where stopovers may occasionally be required due to flight schedules.
The historic cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria, which are both in the Gauteng Province, provide plenty of entertainment and shopping options for tourists thanks to their extensive networks of shopping centres, casinos, flea markets, and suburban shops. Numerous museums can be found in both cities, such as MuseumAfrica, Constitution Hill, Museum of Military History, Hector Peterson Museum, and Apartheid Museum. There are also a number of theatres and playhouses in Johannesburg and Pretoria that feature local comedies, drama, ballet, and authentic South African musical performances.
The Highveld grasslands that envelop the province’s boundaries emerge from the outskirts of these thriving metropolises. This includes Johannesburg’s Sedibeng area and the Vaal River to the south, and the well-known Cradle of Humankind, Sterkfontein Caves, and the rural community of Magaliesburg to the west. It continues northward at Pretoria into the Dinokeng tourism region, which includes the large savannahs with several game reserves and the charming mining town of Cullinan, known for its diamond history.
