Situated near Botswana’s border, Hwange was established around 75 years ago and has provided refuge to one of Africa’s highest concentrations of wildlife.
Its enormous herds of elephants and Cape buffalo in particular are impressive to see. At 14,500 km2, it is Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve, featuring a variety of vegetation types and habitats.
Compared to other national parks worldwide, the park boasts one of the highest mammal diversity profiles. There are over 100 species, which makes for an amazing diversity. Some of the species are spotted hyena, caracal, leopard, African wildcat, lion, scrub hare, southern giraffe, hippo, springhare, warthog, and Burchell’s zebra.
Other species include lesser bushbaby, vervet monkey, baboon, porcupine, aardwolf, and black-backed jackal.
