Crystal Serenity Ship Visit
Ceri and I travelled to Liverpool last week to visit the luxury Crystal cruise ship Serenity on its voyage through the British Isles. We received a warm welcome and a glass of champagne...
The Crystal Serenity is 68,870 tonnes and has ten passenger decks. The Serenity carries only 1070 guests and therefore has a huge guest to space ratio compared with other cruise lines with ships of a similar size. On board the ship, they have created many small intimate areas to explore rather than large vast areas, this helps create the friendly and cosy feel on board, that guests love.
On board facilities include:
- Stardust (cabaret) Club
- Galaxy Lounge Theatre showing West End style performances
- Hollywood Theatre (On board Cinema)
- Pulse Nightclub
- Computer University @ Sea
- Bridge Lounge with a number of games and puzzles to keep you entertained
- Studio for on board learning
- On board boutique stores
- Connoisseur Club
- Photo shop
- Tennis Courts
- Golf driving nets
Dining and refreshment options include:
- Daytime bistros for a late breakfast
- Trident Grill for all your BBQ'd needs
- Crystal Dining Room
- Prego (Italian speciality restaurant)
- Silk Road (Nobu sushi restaurant)
- Scoops Ice Cream Bar
- The Vintage room
We were happily surprised with the range of on board facilities to suit all needs and entertainment preferences, however we felt that the décor on board was very traditional compared to other luxury ships that have adopted a more sleek modern look.
On our tour we also saw some of the most popular cabin grades on board. All staterooms are outside so you will have a view where ever you are. We saw a Deluxe Stateroom with large picture window, a Deluxe Stateroom with Verandah and a Penthouse with Verandah.
Deluxe Stateroom with Large Picture Window:
This was a very spacious room compared to many cruise lines standard staterooms with a total floor space of 226 square feet. The space still included a queen size bed, leather sofa, television, fridge and safe. The bathrooms in this space still manage his and her sinks and a three quarter bath tub/shower. We were very impressed with how Crystal managed to utilise the space.
Deluxe Stateroom with Verandah:
The next category stateroom has the same amount of floor space with the addition of a balcony giving a total inside and out area of 269 square feet. This balcony area was a very pleasant, private space that can be enjoyed on a quiet evening when you just want to relax in your cabin whilst still enjoying the perfect view.
Penthouse with Verandah:
This was a very impressive space, still three categories down from the luxurious Crystal Penthouse it is a very luxurious stateroom to enjoy. The space covers 403 square feet and includes a very large private balcony to relax with friends. The layout has a separate bedroom and lounge area that can allow for inviting friends over or having some privacy when their is a child sharing the room. The penthouse also includes a vanity table, jacuzzi bathtub, separate shower, a walk in closet, and binoculars, plus all the other facilities of the lower grades.
Something a bit different we picked up: All the cabins take a maximum of 3 people but interconnecting rooms are available throughout the ship. All the cabins are also very sophisticated with digital doorbells and do not disturb panels!
Crystal Cruises can certainly pride themselves on the level of service and the quality of dining on offer. The friendly service throughout our visit and during restaurant service was to a very high standard, yet friendly and modest; therefore no guest is made to feel uncomfortable or out of place.
The dining we experienced in the main restaurant (Crystal Dining Room) was delightful. The restaurant had a classic and traditional style that you could experience as a family, couple or group of friends. We enjoyed a delicious meal of: Lobster Spring Roll, Risotto con Zucco, 72 hour Prime Beef (amazing!) and a gorgeous chocolate desert which was delicious.
There are also opportunities for private dining on board, with a private dining room seating up to twelve people, ideal for groups and families travelling together. The meals are specially prepared to your preferences and private sommelier is available. In suite dining for penthouse guests is also an option and there are speciality restaurants with a more modern feel including the Trident Grill with living plants growing from the walls and a retractable roof to allow the sunshine in!
Crystal have recently announced that they will be expanding their fleets with two yachts, one of which can be chartered for private cruising and also a dream-liner aeroplane that will be a full premium experience for passengers. It is obvious from this that we should expect to see a lot more of Crystal for many years to come!
We left the Serenity after feeling totally pampered and wishing we could stay!
Tip to remember: When cruising with Crystal Serenity internet is accessible through a variety of packages on your first voyage, but from future cruises Crystal offer a complimentary internet package of up to 60 minutes per day which can be used around the ship and in the Computer University @ Sea area that has a full Apple Mac suite.
